Project
”Teenage Love” is an animation that explores the question, ”What is love?” through the interactions of a rabbit, a cat, and a bear at a roadside café in Småland. The sound design, recorded first, shaped both the characters and the setting, with animations created in Procreate and Adobe After Effects.
Idea
The concept was to use the recorded voices to inspire the visual design, allowing the characters’ traits to emerge from their dialogue. Each animal reflects a personality, and the setting – a quiet, run-down café – enhances the intimate, reflective mood.
Process
After the initial sound recording, the process began with character design. I carefully listened to the recording, paying attention to hints about each character’s personality traits, which were then accentuated visually.
Cat (Girlfriend): The cat represents warmth, attentiveness, and playful energy. She is small and cute, with big, sparkling eyes that embody her bubbly laughter and loving personality. The visual design emphasizes her affectionate and caring side, seen in her supportive reactions during the conversation.
Rabbit (Main Character): The rabbit is hesitant, surprised, and slightly anxious. With large, expressive eyes, the rabbit’s body language reflects a calm and soft demeanor at first, but it quickly shifts to confusion and a desire to escape when confronted with the question of love. This aligns with the rabbit’s skittish nature and emotional vulnerability.
Bear (Friend): The bear is large, imposing, and sarcastic, capturing the snarky, teasing tone delivered at the end of the dialogue. His character is modeled after the typical “older-brother” archetype—mocking but in a playful, overconfident way. The bear’s laugh adds to his smug and somewhat overbearing personality, making him a perfect fit for the role.
